江泽民总书记在党的十四大报告中指出:“实践的发展和认识的深化,要求我们明确提出,我国经济体制改革的目标是建立社会主义市场经济体制”。这是因为,市场经济体制是实现资源最优配置的重要保证;是提高社会劳动生产率,加快社会经济发展速度的重要条件,能够较好地解决生产与需求,供与求的矛盾。社会主义市场经济体制是一种崭新的经济体制,它的基础是建立在社会主义公有制基础上的,市场在资源配置中起基础作用的商品经济。其先进性体现在按照市场经济的运行法则

The socialist market economic system is a brand-new economic system. Its foundation is a commodity economy based on socialist public ownership, and the market plays a fundamental role in the allocation of resources. Its advanced nature is reflected in the operating rules of the market economy.
