Objective To explore the differences between urban and rural areas and related psychopathological features of homicide cases in schizophrenia patients. Methods A self-compiled criminology questionnaire was used to compare 62 cases of schizophrenia in town and 72 cases of schizophrenia in rural areas. Results The main causes of homicide in both groups were hallucinations and delusions. However, the educational level of schizophrenic patients in rural areas was lower (t = 6.09, P <0.01), and obvious mental symptoms were more prominent (χ2 = 5.13, P <0.05 ). Victims were more common in their neighbors (χ2 = 3.46, P <0.05). More unemployed persons were found in urban schizophrenia (χ2 = 9.01, P <0.01). Conclusion Cultural differences and economic and environmental factors have an impact on the homicide of schizophrenia.
