潜艇部队是遂行水下作战任务的海军兵种。与海军其它兵种相比,潜艇具有隐蔽性强、自持力和续航力大、攻击威力大等基本战术特性。潜艇自首次用于海上战争至今已有200余年的历史。在此期间,随着人类科学技术的不断进步,潜艇从一种结构相对简单、作战效能有限的新式武器,被迅速发展成为拥有先进的动力装置、强大的作战武器、完善的观察、探测及通信设备,具有高度隐蔽、机动作战和生存能力的重要海战装备,成为现代海军无可替代的重要作战手段和力量。新中国海军自建军初期开始,基于对现代海军力量构成的充分认识及敌强我弱的海防形势需要,就将潜艇部队作为中国海军作战体系的建设重点予以优先的重视和投入,中国海军潜艇部队在一个相对较短的历史时期即取得了长足发展,兵力规模也迅速达到了世界前列。在新中国饱受外来军事威胁的那个年代,以大量常规动力潜艇为主战兵力的潜艇部队作为新中国海防最具威慑的战斗力量,一直担负着必要时刻主动出击,去封锁、破坏敌人港口、航线,消灭敌海上重要目标,实施积极防御作战的重要使命。进入新世纪以来,在新军事革命的推动下,战场环境及战争形态正在发生着日新月异的变化,而随着国家综合实力的极大提高,当代中国海军发展建设方面也取得了前所未有的进展。包括潜艇在内的海军装备迅速实现了更新换代,隐蔽性、机动性、武器作战距离、探测及导航、通信能力等多方面达到或接近国际先进水平的新一代核潜艇、常规动力潜艇已经成为当今中国海军潜艇部队的主战装备。 Submarine force is to carry out underwater combat missions of the naval arms.
