程婴是春秋时晋国义士,千百年来为世人称颂。相传他是古少梁邑(今陕西韩城西少梁附近程庄)人,是当时晋卿赵盾及其子赵朔的友人。晋景公三年,大夫屠岸贾以一个罪名杀了赵盾,并诛灭了赵氏全族。当时只有赵朔的妻子幸免于难,她身怀六甲,如果生男,则赵氏不灭,因此,保全和绝灭赵氏的两方,都盯住了这个尚未出生的遗腹子。朔客公孙杵臼见到程婴问他为什么没有为朋友殉难,程婴虽已抱定殉难的决心,但是把保全赵氏后代放在首位。二人心意相通,
