在湖南医科大学绿树成荫的校园内,有一幢七层楼的大厦上耸立着原中共湖南省委书记、现任第八届全国人大常委熊清泉同志题写的牌匾“医学遗传学国家重点实验室”。她是我国唯一的国家级医学遗传学重点实验室,是我国医学遗传硕士、博士培养点,博士后流动站。这里汇聚了夏家辉、伍汉文、李麓芸、何小轩、邓汉湘等一批在医学遗传学方面造诣深厚、出类拔萃专家教授,共拥有工作人员43人;拥有配套的细胞遗传学和分子遗传学先进的研究仪器设备达130万美元。该室的研究任务主要是开展医学遗传学的基础及应用基础研究。历年来,该室科技人员在“情系中华、团结拼搏、面向世界、参与竞争”口号的鼓舞下,潜心研究,大胆探索,取得了如下令人嘱目的成就。
