An automated control system that measures the deformation of a profiled sheet surface can help a car designer determine whether parts of a car, such as a car door, can be molded once without wrinkles or cracks. The system can analyze the deformation of sheet metal 100 times faster than the current manual measurement method. This new system uses photographic resist to draw a uniform grid of squares on the sheet to be molded. The size of the grid varies from 4.67 to 9.53mm depending on the part size. When the sheet is processed into the shape of the desired part, the television camera can take two grid views from different angles. The intersection points of the grids are displayed numerically and transported to the computer, and then the couple of sections of the two views are utilized
