禾木,河名,卫拉特蒙古语,洪水期水浪翻滚,似骆驼的肩肌肉之意——布尔津县地名图志里这么说,禾木和喀那斯湖所在的喀那斯村,都属于禾木喀那斯乡,乡政府所在地是禾木村。禾木夏季短暂凉爽,冬季严寒漫长,大雪封山,只有5—10月可通汽车。村中房屋全是用原木搭建而成,坐落于成片白桦树林之中,禾木河绕村而过,无论从任何一个角度所望,都是一幅幅优美的风景画。村落周围森林草原相间,自然风景幽美。秋天时漫山流丹溢彩,处处是热烈而明朗的金黄色。
