For decades, samples collected on the ground and measurements have provided valuable information to logging operators on the condition of the bit face. Information collected through mud logging enables operators to understand reservoir potential in advance and even prevent formation pressure ahead of schedule. While new sampling and analysis techniques, as well as advances in ground-based sensor design and monitoring systems, mud logging science is taking a new look into the 21st century. Mud mud logging has long been a well-known device in the wellsite. In 1939, the mud logging instrument was put into commercial use for the first time. At that time, only mobile coffeemakers included in this mobile laboratory were used to inspect formation cuttings
