Budapest, the capital of Hungary, is known as the pearl of the Danube. This historic city was originally a sister city across the river - Buda and Perth, which were formally merged in 1873. The Danube meanders from the northwest to southeast, passing through the city center and eight distinctive iron bridges. Buda in the West Bank of the Danube, built on hills, surrounded by mountains, all over the magnificent old palace and the cathedral and other famous buildings. Perth, situated on the east bank of the Danube, is flat and is a concentration of administrative, business and cultural institutions.
