OBJECTIVE: To investigate the changes of mental workload of pilots through the changes of physiological indicators of participants in simulated low altitude cabin flight environment. METHODS: Twenty-one male volunteers participated in the experiment of low-pressure cabin flight simulating. The pressure in the cabin was simulated at a height of 2400 meters. The duration of the test was 1.5 hours, repeated for two times. The rest of the cabin was suspended for 0.5 hours. The detection indexes were heart rate variability HRV), psychomotor test, and NASA-TLX subjective rating scale. Results: The study shows that the NASA-TLX scale reflects the subjective perception of the changes in mental workload after simulated flight of low-pressure cabin. The HRV and psychomotor tests also change correspondingly. CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study suggest that there is a certain pattern of changes in brain load caused by simulated flight in a low-pressure cabin. Physiological and psychological tests may be an indirect measure of the variation.
