I. INTRODUCTION The Strillardia-Springs Concrete Arch Dam is an integral part of the new water supply project in Denver, Colorado, and Aurora West. The bedrock bedrock is generally of high quality granitic metamorphic rocks, except for a wide shear zone upstream of the dam and at the abutment of the arch dam at the lower bank. This shear zone constitutes the major defect in the dam site geology and requires specialized slope and foundation treatment design. Its treatment measures include: construction of multi-grouting curtains; multi-draining curtains; extensive use of rock bolts and shotcrete in the excavation of rock slopes and close monitoring during the project’s operation. This article discusses the details of the basic treatment design and construction and the monitoring during the project’s operation, and lists the monitoring results in the construction process.
