The EU plans to implement a new pesticide residues inspection standard on imported tea leaves starting from July 2000. In order to study the possible impact of EU measures on China’s tea exports, China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Food, Livestock and Poultry, Tea Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Zhejiang Tea Import and Export Corporation held the national export of tea leaves in Guangzhou in December 1999 Governance seminar. China has a vast area of tea production and a large variety of tea plants, most of which are located in the mountains with pure soil and water. However, there are some quality problems in the tea industry in our country. In particular, the tea plantations in some hilly regions have more pests and diseases in the tea season in summer and autumn.
