晋剧是四大梆子(中路梆子、蒲州梆子、上党梆子、北路梆子)之一,起源于最早的山陕梆子,融合了祁太和汾孝秧歌和腔调及打击乐,在道白、唱腔、表演方面均发生变化,形成了高亢激越而又清新柔和的风格。山西省三晋晋剧团就是个典型的例子,它是在原晋中中路梆子的基础上大多由昔阳人组成的民营剧团。有着300多年历史的晋剧却也起起落落,历经欢喜坎坷。如今的晋剧,在继承,在改革,在发展,但仍处在一种低迷状态,从晋剧的票房收入、观众群体、生存现状,就不难看出,它在勉强地挣扎着,几乎退出了年轻人的精神世界,甚至相当数量的、生活在城市的中年人都不会想到它。
