第一次世界大战催生出了冲锋枪,第二次世界大战又使冲锋枪威名远扬。于是,在二战及其以后直至20世纪七八十年代,冲锋枪一族得到了蓬勃的发展,世界上许多国家纷纷推出了自己的冲锋枪,其种类及样式可谓是丰富多彩。曾经一度有不少人一看到长枪,不论是自动步枪还是突击步枪全都称之为冲锋枪,这种情况在我国尤为明显——几乎所有人都称56式自动步枪、56式突击步枪乃至最新款的95式突击步枪为冲锋枪。其实,这是犯了个本质性的错误,因为冲锋枪无论是在结构还是在性能上与自动步枪都有着极大的区别。冲锋枪除了在外形上与自动步枪有些近似外,其体积明显要小一些,更重要的是,它是发射手枪弹的,因为要求载弹量多,所以它的弹夹窄小而细长。另外,尽管它的射速高、火力密集,但它的有效射击距离都在150～200米之间,这是与自动步枪无法相比的。下面,就让我们来欣赏一部分曾经著名的冲锋枪吧。
