In recent years, there have been a series of changes in the study of the history of international relations in the history of German historiography. Its contents include not only the traditional diplomatic relations but also the cross-ethnic and intercultural contacts of state and non-state actors. Although the emphasis on the importance of culture has been implemented only to a small extent, studies of people around diplomats have increased the number of studies on pre-diplomatic activities prior to the establishment of formal diplomatic relations. In the past, the study of relations between countries mainly focused on Europe. Now the relationship between European countries and the “marginalized communities” outside Europe has also been listed in the schedule of international historical studies.
