Among the biographies translated and published in recent years, Zweig’s “Marie Antoinette” and “Joseph Fuechet” are quite notable. The two were both prominent figures in French history. They both entered and left the arena of the French Revolution and were both notoriously behind the scenes. They were likely to arouse public interest. In the Chinese translation, the former was renamed “the queen of France who ordered a funeral mission” (World Knowledge Press, 1987), which is more stimulating.
