Investment in construction in and between cities in Japan is still essential, and it is predicted that there will still be high rates of investment for the next 20 years. Under such circumstances, tunnel excavation technology will play an important role, of which TBM technology will play a leading role in the highly mechanized construction technology for efficient excavation and saving. Japan has made tremendous contributions to the TBM technology in the shield, and its emerging technology continues to emerge. In Japan, the TBM of rock tunnels is increasingly demonstrating its importance in stope tunnel excavation.
