Enolase (EG4.2.1.11) is a glycolytic enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of 2-phosphoglycerate to phosphoenolpyruvate. It has immunologically the different nature of α, β, γ three subunits, in the tissue cells they exist as dimers. α-enolase is widely distributed in various tissues, while γ-enolase mainly locates in nerve tissue and β-enolase mainly in muscle cells of skeletal muscle and heart.
