胡绳渊博,涉猎甚广,主要是一位历史学家、近代史学家。集中很多精力研究党史,是八十年代以后的事情。新时期修党史,或许可以说是从起草叶帅国庆三十周年讲话开始吧。我记不清楚胡绳是不是参加了起草小组,大概没有吧。接着就成立了建国以来党的若干历史问题决议的起草小组,这是一九七九年国庆之后不久的事情,胡绳好像也没有参加。后来因为陈云同志提了建议,要在决议的前面专门加写一大篇话,讲解放以前党的历史。邓小平同志很赞成,认为六十年一写,毛泽东的功绩、贡献就会概括得更全面。这个意见转达给起草小组已经
