(一)1921年暑假到来之际,长沙的周南女子中学校长解聘了进步教师陈启民(即陈书农)。陈启民是毛泽东在湖南省第一师范学校的同学,他曾和毛泽东等同学发起成立进步团体“新民学会”。1918年4月14日,在成立大会上,萧三的胞兄萧子升当选为学会的总干事,只有两名干事就是毛泽东和陈启民。不久,萧子升出国留学,学会的领导任务便由毛泽东担当,陈启民成为毛泽东的助手。周南女子中学的校长在“五四”运动中也是一个弄潮儿。这时候,他退步了,偏向保守了。他解聘陈启民老师的错误举措,激起了学生的不满和抗
