In this paper, a specific equation for predicting the diameter change after thinning is deduced by using the statistical consistency condition that the sum of the diameter distribution of harvested and preserved wood is equal to the diameter distribution of pre-cut stands. The equation uses the location separation parameter and the scale separation parameter to determine the thinning selectivity
