1965年11月上旬交通部在广东省江村大桥工地举办了悬砌拱桥新工艺学习班。悬砌拱桥是从1961年开始研究、实验的,广东省交通厅和交通科学研究院的有关人员密切配合,深入现场,刻苦钻研,创造了这顶新工艺。到1965年11月底止,用悬砌法修建的预制块拱桥有32座,总长约1800米,但均为中小桥梁,惟江村桥是目前采用这种新工艺建造的大型桥梁,全长210米,每孔跨径为25米,潮水时水深6.5米,全桥投资74万元。为了更好地推广这顶新工艺,选定江村大桥作为学习现场。参加这次学习的有辽宁、甘肃、广西、四川、江苏、内蒙、陕西、湖北、山东等省区交通厅,第一、二公路勘察设计院,第一、二、三公路工程局等单位,参加的人员共有49人,其中有颁导干部、技术人员、工人同志。
