我国赤霉素的生产和使用已有三十年的历史。目前赤霉素的生产规模大,年产量为世界第一。其用途之广名列各国的前矛,首创了应用赤霉素解决杂交水稻制种中花期不遇的难题。赤霉素的效应在五种植物内源激素中是最多样化的,而且至今无法化学合成,也没有发现任何化学物质有类似赤霉素的生物效应。赤霉素的生产仍需靠大规模培养赤霉菌,然后经复杂的分离、提纯程序制备出来,因此赤霉素价格昂贵。近年赤霉素供应紧俏,严重影响了杂交水稻的制种。制种稻是否使用赤霉素,种子产量可相差十多倍,甚至几十倍。许多乡镇企业,准备设厂生产赤霉素,但所需基建投资甚大。

Many township and village enterprises are ready to set up factories to produce gibberellins, but the infrastructure investment required is very large.
