This paper reports the results of 42 linkage tests involving six mutants of Pina cotton (Gossrpium barbadense L.) and fifteen G.hirsutum L. mutants. Forty of the tests did not show significant evidence of linkage, whereas only two showed a linkage. A dominant Pima male sterility mutant, Msp, was found to be linked to a pair of gl_2 in the gonad duplication gene, with a recombination rate of 9.38 ± 0.98% and a recombination rate with light seed (N_1) of 13.95 ± 1.89%. Msp and the dominant male sterility genes Ms_4 and Ms_7 are not allelic. For such characteristics of Pima male sterility, it is proposed to use the gene symbol Ms_ (11) instead of the now commonly used symbol Msp.
