Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1957, John Hou grew farms and pastures north of the U.S. border. In 1976 he entered an American college near Strasbourg, France and advanced to Ecole des Arts De coratifs the following year, where he studied for three years. After that, he moved to Switzerland and participated in the production of an animated film, where he started his career as an illustrator.
