In 2012, it was a year for documentary films to enter the normalized development after national orientation, policy support and platform construction. Since 2010, the development of documentary films has made a strategic shift. At the national level, the documentary shape the national image based on the demand of “carefully creating the cultural brand of the Chinese nation, enhancing the international competitiveness of the Chinese cultural industry and promoting the Chinese culture to the world.” At the policy level, the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television released No. 88 Document in October 2010 on the development of the documentary industry
