Advances in seismic technology now make it possible to obtain reliable information both on the surface and in depth about the distribution of fluids within a reservoir. This information can help provide better decisions and simulate options that optimize production, improve oil recovery, and reduce costs. The sum of these advances is a four-dimensional seismic or time-lapse 3D seismic survey. During the past decade, many successful case studies of seismic monitoring of oil and gas have been published that address different geological and reservoir conditions.
