The Royal Netherlands Army will retrofit 18 surplus Leopard 2 main battle tanks to armored miners, at a cost of 57 million guilders ($ 34.5 million). The 18 vehicles (named “Leopard” 2-MDS) will be equipped with troops in 1999 and will undertake minefield clearance operations.
