Willa Cather (1873-1947) is a famous American writer who describes the Midwest pioneers of the late 19th century. She is talented and knowledgeable. Literary emphasis pay attention to style of writing is concise, structure is symmetrical, rhythm is soothing, artistic conception is fresh. Many critics have compared her with some of America’s most prominent novelists, such as Henry James and Ernest Hemingway, and even promoted her as “one of the greatest women writers since the founding of the United States.” The short story “The Old Beauty” is one of her masterpieces on the theme of reflecting the artist’s life.
