东汉定都洛阳的原因,是中国古代史学界一个老生常谈的问题。旧说大致有七种观点,但似乎都有不足之处。通过考察两汉之际的历史情形,综合政治形势、自然地理状况、时代精神等方面进行分析,东汉定都洛阳是必然之举。其原因有三:一是气候转冷,北方少数民族南侵势力加强;二是东汉之时代精神与西汉相较,自进取转为退婴,故无意与北方少数民族作坚决之抗衡;三是历史发展的必然趋势。其中,时代精神起到了主要作用。
