Discussed the important role of SHP in Europe now and in the future as well as the major problems and challenges that will be faced in SHP. Also discussed the development of small hydropower in Sweden. There are 1615 small hydropower stations in Sweden, with a total installed capacity of more than 1000MW. The Swedish hydropower generation capacity is the fifth in Europe.
