Objective To understand the mental health status of 106 HIV / AIDS patients and to compare with the normal norm in the country to explore the specific influencing factors of mental health status of HIV / AIDS patients so as to propose a suitable psychological intervention for HIV / AIDS patients. Methods The self-rating symptom scale (SCL-90) was used to investigate the possible influencing factors of mental health status and to make comparative analysis according to the scale factor. Results The mental health status of all HIV / AIDS patients was significantly higher than that of normal subjects in the following aspects: somatization, obsessive-compulsive disorder, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, anxiety, hostility, terror, paranoia and psychosis (P <0.01). Further multivariate linear regression analysis showed that age, relatives infection and CD4 + T cell count were the main influencing factors of HIV / AIDS patients’ scores. Conclusion Psychological problems are common in HIV / AIDS patients. Psychological problems should be paid more attention in the process of HIV / AIDS treatment, and intervention therapy should be strengthened.
