台湾与大陆在文化上有密不可分的关系。目前考古发掘的成果表明,早在史前时期就有大陆沿海居民进入台湾地区繁衍生息,此后,两岸的交流一直不曾中断,这是台湾史前美术与闽粤史前美术特征相似的最主要原因。台湾的早期美术发展极其缓慢,直到17世纪还保留着史前文化的痕迹。16世纪末,荷兰人和西班牙人入侵台湾,随之带来了西洋美术,在台南等地留下了具有西洋风情的建筑和雕塑。明清以后,台湾的政治、文化格局延续着中国传统社会的规范,中原文化的影响愈来愈强烈,传统书画作为上层社会的娱乐形式占据主流地
Taiwan and the Mainland are culturally inseparable. The results of the current archaeological excavations show that as early as the prehistoric period, mainland residents living in the mainland entered the Taiwan area and thrived. Since then, cross-Strait exchanges have not stopped. This is the most important reason for the similarities between the prehistoric art in Taiwan and the prehistoric art in Fujian and Guangdong. Taiwan’s early art was extremely slow, and traces of prehistoric culture remained until the 17th century. At the end of 16th century, Dutch and Spanish invaded Taiwan, bringing with them Western art and leaving Western-style buildings and sculptures in Tainan. After the Ming and the Qing Dynasties, the political and cultural patterns in Taiwan continued the norms of the traditional Chinese society. The influence of the Central Plains culture became more and more intense. The traditional painting and calligraphy dominated the amusement of the upper classes
