桃源乡位于吴江县西南部,紧偎富饶的杭嘉湖平原。境内河浜密布,沿河高地植桑,是县内主要蚕桑产区。桃源镇位于戴家浜,因戴家浜上有座桃源桥而得其镇名。近几年来,桃源乡乡镇工业发展很快,全乡农、工、副业总产值中,工业占72％,副业占20％,农业占8％。由于工业发展迅速,而且乡镇工业绝大多数集中在镇上,使得环境污染问题日益突出。桃源镇在编制集镇规划时,将环境保护作为重点加以考虑,
