A common view of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is that it is a recent invention of the twentieth century, even though many of its practitioners claim that it is a continuation of a tradition lasting thousands of years.In an ambitious book, Sean Hsiang-Lin Lei uses a new perspective to explore the history immediately prior to the invention of TCM.During the Republican era the status and future of Chinese medicine faced serious threats from supporters of Westmedicine.
