Many infertility centers evaluate ovarian reserve by FSH level on day 3 of the cycle or clomiphene citrate (CC) stimulation test prior to IVF. Although the predictions of both are more accurate than those of women, FSH levels fluctuate significantly over the period and therefore have limited value. The combined measurement of FSH levels and response to CC stimulation (ie day 10 FSH levels) improves the ability to detect Cui degree of ovarian reserve decline. The physiological basis of the CC stimulation test is to act by antagonizing estrogen by CC. The only mechanism by which CCI inhibits FSH may be through the action of ovarian inhibin, including inhibin A and inhibin B, all of which are products of granulosa cells (GC), the former mainly in the luteal phase
