1995年,在世界网球联合会(WTA)的排名表上,西班牙选手阿伦特泽·桑切斯打破了德国选手斯特菲·格拉夫一统天下的局面,跃居世界排名第一。她是在东京公开赛上战胜法国选手皮尔斯后,超过格拉夫而成为新的世界女子网坛头号种子选手的。这也是从1975年开始WTA每月一次公布运动员的电脑排名以来,继埃弗特、纳芙拉蒂诺娃等人之后第六位获此殊荣的选手。虽然在最近的法国网球公开赛上,桑切斯在决赛中惜败格拉夫,但这丝毫不会掩盖住桑切斯所发出的耀眼的光辉。
In 1995, the Spanish tennis player Arendtze Sanchez broke the top spot in the world with the German player Stefie Graf on the World Tennis Federations (WTA) list. She was the top seed of the new world women’s tennis after beating Graf over the French player Pierce at the Tokyo Open. This is also the sixth winner since WTA released the athlete’s computer rankings once a month since Evert, Navratilova and others. Although Sanchez defeated Graf in the finals at the recent French Open, this did not in the least cover up the dazzling brilliance sent by Sanchez.
