Objective To study the differences of total free β-human chorionic gonadotropin (F-β-hCG) and α-fetoprotein (AFP) levels in singleton pregnancy and twin pregnancy in Henan Province. Methods From January 2012 to December 2012, 29 376 pregnant women with normal singleton pregnancy and 450 normal double-pregnancy pregnant women who were diagnosed with Down’s syndrome in the second trimester of pregnancy and who were confirmed as normal fetuses after delivery were enrolled in Henan Maternal and Child Health Hospital. Pregnant women with fetal pregnancy, AFP and F-β-hCG indicators of two groups of patients were statistically analyzed. Results Studies have shown that there is a significant difference between singleton pregnant women with serum AFP and F-β-hCG levels and twins. The levels of AFP and F-β-hCG in maternal serum were significantly correlated with body weight during pregnancy (P <0.05). Conclusion The levels of AFP and F-β-hCG in the second trimester of pregnant women with singleton and twin pregnancy are significantly different. It is of great clinical significance to establish a database of risk assessment parameters of twin pregnancy in Henan.
