GE’s sensor division has developed a dual-band imaging radiometer, which may be a key step forward for automatic target recognition. A big advantage of dual-band imaging radiometers (DUWIRs) is the simultaneous sensitivity of both infrared bands. A comparison of the two gives you an accurate temperature and temperature gradient for automatic target recognition. Different types of goals, the temperature characteristics are not the same. GE did not do automatic object identification but managed to get the necessary high quality images. Seeker technology uses the same technology used in the UK’s Thermal Imaging Common Module II (TICM II), but covers two bands.
