成都市话剧团大胆培养青年演员,发扬艰苦朴素、勤俭节约的精神,1956年超额完成了原订三百场的演出任务;全年观众达三十二万二千零四人,上座率高达一百零六点二。在培养演员方面,该团在过去演出中,主要角色多由老演员担任。剧目多了,老演员负担很重,没有休息和学习的时间,表演水平不易提高;而青年演员由于没有实践的机会,却又常常产生业务上的苦闷。去年排“万水千山”时,因为戏比较大,需要的演员比较多,领导上决定让一些过去戏少的青年演员担任比较重的角色。“万水千山”中的主要角色黄团长、罗顺成、赵志方、李凤莲都由青年演员担任,演出成绩很好。该团还采取了交叉排演的方法来增加青年演员的艺术实践。如排练“万水千山”
