自从1928年瑞士工程师Buchi提出柴油机脉冲增压系统后,在活塞式航空发动机上获得实际应用。第二次世界大战中,机械传动的离心式压气机和轴流式废气涡轮增压器在航空动力方面显露身手。后来由于喷气发动机的兴起,活塞式航空发动机逐渐衰落,但是增压技术却给人们留下深刻的印象。这时期的增压器的涡轮多为密叶栅轴流式,压比较低。因此,在较长时间内只在中、低速的大功率柴油机上采用增压。当时小流量离心式压气机效率较低,轴承寿命短,所以也不能在中、小功率的高速柴油机上应用。
Since 1928 Swiss engineer Buchi proposed a diesel pulse supercharging system, it has been practically used on piston-type aeroengines. In World War II, mechanically-driven centrifugal compressors and axial-flow turbochargers were shown to be aerodynamically capable. Later, due to the rise of jet engines, piston-type aero engines gradually declined, but booster technology has left a deep impression on people. Turbine turbocharger at this period mostly for the axial flow impeller, pressure ratio is relatively low. Therefore, in a longer period of time only in medium and low-speed high-power diesel engine using supercharger. At that time, low-flow centrifugal compressor efficiency is low, bearing life is short, it can not be in the medium and low-power high-speed diesel engine applications.
