It is commonplace to read reports of violent crimes in the newspapers, learn about the inhuman calamities in the evening news, and tell the radio about cruel and trivial ones. This has always led me to consider the dangers and hostility in this world of our life. It is very difficult and sometimes impossible for me to wipe out my thoughts from my heart. I am particularly worried about the impact of our society on children. Compared with the 1950s and 1960s, when I was a child, the society today lacks sense of security and appears indifferent. In many districts throughout the country, there is solid evidence that the changes in the social environment have had a negative impact on young people. Including the basic human values many Americans consider
