As an English teacher I think the most important thing I have to keep in mind is that interest is the best teacher for students. People all think that we have to find a way to make it easy to memorize new words or to master complicated grammar, however, they didn’t notice that if students do all these things unwillingly, their achievement will be very small or nothing, so the most efficient way to teach English is to help students foster their interests.
　　 According to those psychologists, motivation is really important during learning process. Nowadays in china, city students have better English learning environment. Because of the reform and opening up policy, they have more chance to see foreigners and communicate with them while the rural area students have no idea why they have to study English, because they don’t use English in their daily life. To make things worse, English is a very important subject in their examination. Once they failed, they lose hearts and have no interests in English or even hate it. Under this circumstance, it’s impossible for them to memorize those new words and grammar rules well.
　　So, as an English teacher, how to foster students’ English learning motivation? First and foremost you should give students as much encouragement as possible. They need teacher’s supports. Maybe your kind smile, your encouraging eye or your compliment may give your students power and they may pick up their courage to move on and be a good English learner. What’s more, giving students meaningful learning material is also very important. In this way students can find English learning is a meaningful process. Then, teacher should make English learning a happy thing to do. Those students are active, they are curious about fresh things. As the development of high technology, they are not that into the traditional teaching method which is very dull. So, as a English teacher, you should know what your students like and try to be passionate and active. Give them topic which they are interested in and make them feel happy when they are having English class. If students like you, of course they will like your class and will try their best to learn English well to get your compliment. Thus you succeed. So try to be a popular teacher. Another thing we have to keep in mind is that we should never break the students’ heart. Once you do that, the result is horrible. They may hate you and then hate English. So be cautious when you are so angry that you want scold them. Communicating heart by heart is the best choice. Because they are so fragile that we’d better protect them not to hurt them.
　　Although we have really useful and efficient English teaching method, I still hold the view that a teacher should be flexible, because we are teaching human beings, who are the most complicated emotional animal. If we want to direct them, first learn to know them. Only in this way can we handle all the teaching process well.
