新聞摄影是党的宣传工具之一,它首先必須以現实生活中的真人真事为依据;但同时,还必須貫彻革命的現实主义和革命的浪漫主义相結合的創作原則。新聞摄影不同于其他造型艺术,甚至还不同于以創作为主的艺术摄影。这是被新聞摄影所具有的报道性、文献性和紀实性等特点决定的。比如,在創作方法上,新聞摄影只能通过現場选择来进行拍摄报道,不像有些造型艺术那样,可以塑造典型,离开現場进行創作。这是一面,就是說,新聞摄影在內容上必須絕对真实和准确,要有强烈的思想性和高度的艺术水平。但同时,新聞摄影也要通过事实、通过真人真事表現我們的革命理想,这也是时代的特点和需要决定的。
