Objective: To investigate the changes of pulmonary function in patients with overlap syndrome (OS) and its relationship with sleep-disordered breathing. Methods: Eighty patients diagnosed as OS were selected and their lung function and overnight polysomnography were monitored in sitting position and supine position respectively. The correlations between the changes of lung functions and sleep apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) and the lowest oxygen saturation (LSaO) were also analyzed. Results: The changes of sitting position to supine position, 2 FEV1, VC, MVV as a percentage of predicted value and ERV, (IC) were significantly reduced; AHI and sitting supine lung function was positively correlated, LSaO and sitting supine lung function was negatively correlated. CONCLUSIONS: OS changes in 2 patients affect their lung function and are associated with sleep-disordered breathing.
