In September 1992, the Women’s Research Institute of China Academy of Management Sciences was funded by the United States Global Fund for Women and launched the first women’s hotline in China. One year after the launch of the women’s hotline, another hotline for women experts was added with the support of the Ford Foundation in the United States. The hotline of women experts opened five service topics of law, marriage and family, maternal and child health, sexual and women’s issues. Each topic is covered by experts and scholars in this field and answers various questions raised by callers. In the four months to the end of 1993, the total number of calls received by the Women’s Expert Hotline totaled 1088 calls, an average of about 13 daily, of which 908 were female, accounting for 83.5% of the total, and 180 were male, accounting for 16.5%. 498 of them came from Beijing, accounting for 45.7% of the total, and 407 were from other places, accounting for 37.4% of the total. Visitors from other places covered 29 provinces and municipalities except Tibet and Taiwan. This shows that the hotline of women experts is welcomed by women and men all over the country. Among the five topics, the most consulted is maternal and child health. The content of the communication is very extensive and covers all aspects of women’s and children’s health, such as the treatment of various inflammatory diseases in poly-onset gynecology; pregnancy in obstetrics, perinatal care and up to the scientific feeding of infants. It is worth mentioning that the majority of women have begun to attach importance to fertility
