在央视评选的 2000年中国十大经济人物中，资深经济学家吴敬琏先生成为当选的惟一经济学人士。这表明在当今的社会生活中，一方面实业界显现出巨大的活力而成为公众关注的焦点，另一方面则说明经济学理论的发展相对滞后而被人们冷落；同时也反映了经济生活中存在着大量的脱序现象，如“彩电联盟”“价格混战”“基金黑幕”……因为市场规则屡遭践踏、市场活动缺乏理性，而更深层次的原因则是经济理论的研究还没有走出书斋或书本，经济学家们还没有把他们的目光聚焦到现实生活。基于此，河北省社科联在对河北经济学发展现状研究的基础上，邀请河北省有关专家学者召开“ 21世纪河北省经济学发展论坛”研讨会：关注河北的经济生活，关注河北的经济学发展。
