英国《医学消息》第13卷第46期(1981年)第24页报道:髋关节置换使成千上万的病人解除了痛苦,由于意外地发现了有抗摩擦特性的一种新塑料才使髋关节的置换切实可行。查理(John Charnley)发明的全髋关节成形术在全世界应用,他被看成塑料髋关节之父,在伦敦英国总理授予他“哈丁奖”(Hard-ing Award)。这种奖是行动研究委员会举办的,一年一度发给对残废人作有益工作杰出的人。查理首次对髋关节外科感兴趣约在1956年。他说:“我认为一旦髋关节置换能成功,其它的大关节就容易了,但后来知道。并非如此”。

The world’s largest application of total hip arthroplasty was invented by John Charnley, who is considered the father of plastic hip joints and was awarded the “Hard-ing Award” by the British Prime Minister in London. This prize is organized by the Action Research Council and is distributed once a year to those who make outstanding contributions to the disabled. Charlie for the first time interested in hip surgery about 1956. He said: “I think once the hip replacement is successful, the other big joints are easy, but then I know.”
