(一九六四年一月二十九日)中法两国过去在相当长的一段时间一直没有外交关系,尽管这样,两国人民之间的友谊也从来没有中断过。有些法国朋友到中国来,中国也有各方面的人士去法国。两国经济、文化往来不算很多,但还是有的。现在,两国政府宣布建交,以后的往来会更方便些,更密切一些。我们在一些问题上有着共同的观点。我们都是世界成员,既然是世界成员,就应该有我们自己的地位。世界各国不论大小、强弱,都应该有自己的地位,不可能由两个国家来垄断国际事务,历史上也没有这样的先例。我们有着共同的愿望,都希望发展中法两国人民之间的经济、
(January 29, 1964) China and France have had no diplomatic relations for quite some time in the past. Nevertheless, the friendship between the two peoples has never been interrupted. Some French friends come to China and all walks of life in China have gone to France. There are not many economic and cultural contacts between the two countries, but there are still some. Now, when the two governments announced the establishment of diplomatic ties, their future contacts will be more convenient and closer together. We share a common view on some issues. We are all members of the world. Since we are members of the world, we should have our own status. No country in the world, big or small, strong or weak, should have its own place. It is impossible for both countries to monopolize international affairs. There is no precedent in history. We share the same aspiration and all want to develop the economy between the peoples of China and France.
