万德勒是语言哲学较晚时期的一个重要人物,他是最早熟习乔姆斯基语言学的哲学家之一。他充分运用了现代语言学的手段来讨论语言哲学问题,《哲学中的语言学》是他的代表作之一,鲜明地反映了万德勒的特点。这本书分成七章,第一章讨论语言学是否能帮助哲学,作者的回答是肯定的。第二章到第七章每一章考察一组语言现象,考察时借用了现代语言学的工具,得出的则是具有哲学意义的结论。这些考察本来曾作为论文陆续发表,最后作了些修改合成此书。在这里,我先分别简介后面六章的内容,并随时对照汉语的相关 Mandalay, an important figure in the later period of language philosophy, was one of the earliest philosophers familiar with Chomskyan linguistics. He made full use of the means of modern linguistics to discuss the issue of language philosophy. “Linguistics in philosophy” is one of his masterpieces and clearly reflects the characteristics of Mandalay. The book is divided into seven chapters, the first chapter discusses whether linguistics can help philosophy, the author's answer is affirmative. From chapter two to chapter seven, each chapter examines a group of linguistic phenomena, examines the tools borrowed from modern linguistics, and draws conclusions that are philosophical. These studies had been published as papers one after another, made some changes to the synthesis of the book. Here, I will briefly introduce the contents of the following six chapters, and at any time in contrast to the Chinese related
